TWRA Waterfowl Blind Drawing

Brandt Information Services’ Statement On Tennessee’s Waterfowl Blind Drawing

Brandt Information Services released the following statement today in response to the waterfowl blind drawing in Tennessee:

“Hunting on public lands is an important opportunity for Tennesseans to experience the outdoors and the natural resources of our state. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and Brandt Information Services are committed to a fair and equitable lottery for duck hunters in Tennessee,” said Richard Wise, President of Brandt Information Services. “However, during draw testing on July 28, 2021, the team identified a correction to the draw logic that would help ensure a customer’s choice preference order was taken into consideration appropriately when determining eligibility for award. During the development of the correction, there was a mistake regarding the requested change and approach to be taken. The developer programming the draw logic misunderstood the order of operations thereby awarding everyone’s first hunt choice preference before moving to everyone’s second hunt choice preference all in order of the random number and respecting available items.

This was an honest mistake.” said Wise. “It is our number one priority to provide customers with fair hunting opportunities in a transparent manner. The random method used for the drawing process unintentionally varied from the information provided to the public. However, the drawing still operated in a fair and random manner. Neither draw method would have guaranteed success for any applicants. We have taken collective and immediate action to identify opportunities for improvement and are correcting the drawing process prior to the next drawing. We are committed to providing Tennesseans with equal and fair opportunities for hunting and outdoor participation.”
